The first month with a new baby is a complete whirlwind. I personally had no idea what I was doing but miraculously managed due to some type of survival mode that takes over your zombie-like, sleep deprived self. Most moms will agree that looking back, it’s a complete blur. I asked a few of the recent Super Moms in my life which items they couldn’t have lived without in their first month and here is what they shared:
For Mom:
Coffee
Google (How did our parents even survive?)
Epsom Salts
Squeeze bottle from hospital (In fact, take everything you can! They have to throw away everything for sanitary reasons so stock up)
Perineal Spray
Washable Soft and Cozy Breast Pads
Lanolin Cream
Pre-made/freezer meals
Grocery Delivery Service
Grab and Go Healthy Snacks
Dry Shampoo
Nursing Cover
Nursing Pillow
Diaper Bag
Breast Pump
Stain Removal Spray (we like baby oxyclean)
Comfy Maternity Pajamas (I’m still wearing them a year later, lol!)
Robe
For Baby:
Noise Machine (womb sounds/white noise)
Super Soft Musllin Swaddles (Aden + Anais oversized Muslin blankets were my favorite as they were very easy to swaddle our tiny girl)
Flannel receiving Blankets (Make for awesome burp cloths)
Soother (We used one once baby was feeding well. Controversial, I know…)
Coconut Oil (for everything from cradle cap to diaper barrier)
Button down undershirts (we had our girl in August and these were great in the heat)
Portable and wipeable diaper changing station (Keekaroo is awesome with a diaper caddy with diapers, creams, and wipes)
Bottles with newborn nipples (so dad can give mom a break)
Baby Monitor (we love our Levana Willow)
Diaper Pail (the Bubula double chamber system is really great to prevent smells)
Dockatot (for supervised sleep and play only)
Bassinet (we love the Halo Bassinest with vibration)
